Hi and welcome to my blog to inform the South High Community on what is happening and what is not happening in regards to the South High athletic fields and the MPS property on Lake Street between 20th and 21st Avenues.
Currently, MPS has a plan to build a new $29 million building on that block for the Adult Basic Education (ABE) program and the Transition Plus (T+) program. Many, if not most, of us in the South High community thought was that the property was being acquired for the undersized and worn-out track and fields. Some of us found out in July that was not the case. Not only did we find out that MPS was not considering South High and it's track and field, but it was putting in two MPS programs that will not only lock South into it's current undersized athletic footprint, but may also impact South from an administration standpoint as well. This blog is a culmination of many of the communications sent over the past few months. Please understand I'm just a parent at South and not a technology wiz, so I'm sure there are better and more helpful ways to distribute the information. I am very happy to receive help if you can. Thank you! Please let me know if you would like to be part of asking MPS for a long-term plan for South High School BEFORE any building construction contract is signed and any hole is dug. Contracts can be signed as early as January and digging as early as April, 2017. We just want to know that South is taken care of for the foreseeable future and not forgotten as it has been for the past couple decades. Please look through this site, the "about" section, the "press" section with the Star Tribune story on the South High fields and reader comments and our "contacts" page. Please email with any questions, comments AND let me know if we can include your name in support of South High School in communications to the District.
